Thomas M. Georges received the B.S. degree in engineering from Loyola-Marymount University in 1961 and an M.S. from U.C.L.A., also in engineering. In 1967, he received a Ph.D. in engineering from the University of Colorado. From 1963 until 2000, he worked as a research scientist at the Boulder, Colorado, Laboratories of the U.S. Department of Commerce, first with the National Bureau of Standards, and most recently with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), where his research focused on ocean remote sensing using over-the-horizon radars.

Dr. Georges is the author or co-author of more than 100 publications on radio and acoustic-gravity-wave propagation, ionospheric dynamics, meteorology, radar oceanography, and atmospheric and ocean acoustics.

He taught technical writing courses for business, government, and industry and is the author of Business and Technical Writing Cookbook -- How to Write Coherently on the Job.

During retirement from NOAA after 36 years of government service, he wrote DIGITAL SOUL - Intelligent Machines and Human Values.

Thomas M. Georges died at his home in Boulder, Colorado on July 6, 2006.
